ATM Security TIPS for customers
ATM Security TIPS for customers
The precautions you take as an ATM user can help us in safeguarding your interests. By following some ATM usage security tips you increase your personal security and reduce the risk of becoming an ATM crime victim.
The following measures can help make the use of ATMs safer for everyone.
Security of your ATM
Your SBI ATM card is pre-activated with a system generated default PIN (Personal Identification Number). Please ensure that your ATM PIN packet is not opened / damaged when it is delivered to you by the Bank.
Though the SBI ATM card is an ATM cum Debit Card, please ensure the first use of the card is at our ATMs only and not at any POS.
Please change the preset PIN number provided by the Bank during first login at the ATM. Also, make it a habit to change your ATM PIN regularly.
Do not use the same PIN for different services / equipments.
For setting your PIN, do not use any personal data like date of birth, telephone number etc.
Memorize your ATM PIN and destroy the envelope. Do not write it down or keep it in your wallet or purse, mobile phone, computer etc.
Do not share your PIN with anyone else (including bank employees, police etc.)
Please sign immediately on the reverse of the card / duplicate card.
While using your card at any POS, make sure the merchant swipes the card in your presence. Please sign on the receipt only after verifying the transaction.
Immediately report any stolen or lost ATM card to the Bank.
Regularly review your bank statements to detect any unauthorized/fraudulent transactions.
Please note that Bank staff / officers will never ask you for your PIN number, for any reason whatsoever.
Never lend your ATM card to anyone; treat it as if it were cash or a credit card.

Security at the ATM location
Shield the ATM keypad from anyone who may be standing or parked nearby or anyone crowding you in an attempt to view your PIN and/or transaction. Use your body / hands as a shield if necessary while you enter your access code.
When you approach an ATM, scan the area first for any suspicious persons or activity around the ATM.
Be aware of your surroundings throughout the entire transaction. Do not become so involved with your transaction that you are not aware of changing conditions in the area.
If you notice anything strange, leave and return some other time. Even if you have already started a transaction, cancel it and leave. Inform the bank immediately.
Make sure you retain your transaction receipt. Do not throw away the receipt at the ATM site.
If you have withdrawn cash, put it in your wallet/ bag immediately.
Never accept offers for assistance with ATM usage from strangers; instead, ask the bank for help by calling at the telephone numbers provided at the ATM.
